Instructor of the Month

Julián Cruz, KMG Argentina

Age:

31 years old

Marital status:

In a relationship

Occupation:

Full time KMG Instructor. I have two academies and I teach KMG to the local police and the Army.

Krav Maga experience:

Expert 1. VIP and Kids Instructor. I have practiced Krav Maga since 2009, when it first came to my country. Until that time, I practiced Kung Fu, Muay Thai and a Hawaiian style known as Kajukenbo.

Why Krav Maga:

I choose Krav Maga because when I train I need to understand what I am doing. I need to feel that my training is “tactical training”. I think that Krav Maga is the most effective system and, overall, very easy to learn.

Weekly training regime:

Each day of the week, I train my physical condition with a routine that works my stamina, power and flexibility. On the weekends I train my KMG techniques with a colleague instructor from the KMG academies.

Most effective Krav Maga technique:

I think that the most effective techniques in KMG are the double defenses because we can defend ourselves from a variety of attacks with a simple movement. They are powerful, have a long range and are generally very simple, making them highly effective.

Tip for KM trainees:

It is very important to train every technique through repetition. But there is more to it than that. As every defense has its 200%, we must realize that every technique has at least two ways of understanding it. One way is through repetition, because the body needs to understand what I am doing. And the second is the all-encompassing mind aspect. We need to train our mindset for each technique because this is tactical training and we do this in order to create combat strategies. Another mind aspect of training is to study the check points of each technique, which are so important that they might make the difference between life and death.
